Service & Panel Upgrades
200- and 400-amp service upgrades, panel and sub-panel replacements, whole-home surge protection, and immaculate panel work — the unseen heart of an estate, modernized and built to outlast the house.
Open our panel cover and you understand the whole project.
A modern estate asks far more of its service than the home it replaced: induction ranges, multiple EV chargers, heat pumps, pools, a wine cellar, a media room, standby power. An aging 100- or 150-amp service simply can't carry it — and a sloppy panel is a fault waiting to happen.
We modernize the service from the meter in: correctly sized conductors, a precisely calculated load, surge protection at the source, and a panel laid out and labeled with a care most electricians reserve for nothing at all. It is the part of our work no guest will see — and the part we are proudest of.
How we approach a jobFrom the meter to the last breaker.
Service Upgrades — 200A & 400A
Whole-property capacity increases coordinated with the utility, from overhead and underground services to full 400-amp meter-mains.
Panel & Sub-Panel Replacement
Replacing obsolete and recalled panels, and adding sub-panels for garages, guesthouses, pools, and wings — properly fed and labeled.
Surge Protection
Type 1 and Type 2 whole-home surge protective devices at the service, shielding the home's electronics, controls, and motors.
AFCI & GFCI Protection
Arc-fault and ground-fault protection brought up to current code throughout the home — quietly preventing the faults that start fires.
Load Calculations
Engineered, code-compliant load studies that right-size the service for everything the home runs today and everything it will add tomorrow.
Fault-Finding & Troubleshooting
Methodical diagnosis of the intermittent trip, the warm breaker, the flicker — found at the root and corrected, not patched.
Labeling and dressing aren't cosmetic. They're craft.
Inside our panels, conductors run in parallel bends, gathered and combed so every circuit traces cleanly from breaker to knockout. Each is engraved-labeled — not scrawled on a sticker — and the schedule is typed, accurate, and mounted inside the door. When a future electrician opens that cover, the entire home is legible at a glance.
This discipline is also how we modernize safely. We bring grounding and bonding up to current code, eliminate the double-taps and shared neutrals of decades past, and torque every termination to spec. The home that results is not just more powerful — it is measurably safer.
- Engraved circuit labels and a typed, accurate panel schedule
- Combed, parallel conductor dressing on every panel we touch
- Grounding, bonding, and terminations brought fully to code
- Torque-verified connections, documented at commissioning
Disruption measured in hours, not days.
A service or panel upgrade is invasive by nature — so we plan it to the minute, coordinate the utility and inspector in advance, and keep an occupied home livable throughout.
Request an assessment →Assess & Calculate
We inspect the existing service, run a full load calculation, and document exactly what the home needs.
Permit & Coordinate
We pull permits and schedule the utility disconnect and inspection so the outage window is as short as possible.
Install & Modernize
New service, panel, surge protection, and code corrections — installed, dressed, and labeled in a single coordinated visit.
Test & Certify
Terminations torque-verified, protection tested, inspection passed, and a clean panel schedule left in the door.
"We upgraded a hundred-year-old Pacific Heights home to 400 amps for a remodel with two EV chargers and a heat pump. A. Wood handled the utility, the inspector, and the load study — and left a panel so beautifully labeled the inspector took a photo of it."
